Professor of Education & Director of the Masters in Educational Practice

Overview

We are seeking an exceptional candidate with a strong and dynamic profile in education, and a research and practice-led commitment to the professional development of teachers. You will take overall responsibility for the effective delivery of the MEP, a new innovative practice based provision for newly qualified teachers in Wales. The MEP is a Welsh Government initiative and will be delivered by an HEI alliance led by Cardiff University.  You will lead its effective implementation, as well as  developing a strategic vision for the both the programme and related developments in professional learning within the Cardiff School of Social Sciences.The person appointed will have a strong and successful record in education and possess excellent managerial and communication skills.

Sessional Youth Worker

Overview

A Sessional Youth Worker is needed to assist in planning, organising and supporting ALPHA, a young people’s research advisory group based in DECIPHer, one of the UKCRC Public Health Centre of Excellence.  The successful applicant would need experience of working with young people in a participative manner, an understanding of public health issues affecting young people and a knowledge of Youth Work principles, which should be evidenced on CV.

This is a flexible role which will be 5 to 20 hours per month, to include weekend working..

Finance Officer

The School of Social Sciences is seeking to appoint a Finance Officer.  You will work as part of a team in ensuring that all work associated with the School finances is completed efficiently and according to the University financial regulations.  You will provide clerical support in the maintenance of the School recurrent, research, short course and conference accounts.

Overview

This exciting new post will play an integral role in the further development of the WISERD Web GIS Portal - an ESRC funded project that aims to establish a data discovery and sharing infrastructure (the GeoPortal) for quantitative and qualitative socio-economic data.

Based at the Cardiff School of Social Sciences and located in the Wales Institute of Social and Economic Research, Data & Methods (WISERD), the post-holder will be responsible for the day to day management and technical development of the WISERD GeoPortal.

The post would suit an experienced academic or suitably qualified professional with expertise in GIS and the processing of geographical data, computer programming and web mapping technologies

Overview

The Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW) has commissioned the Wales Institute of Social and Economic Research, Data and Methods (WISERD) to undertake a three-year programme of research and capacity building in Wales. You will be part of an interdisciplinary research team, collectively working on a range of research activities, which will involve working closely with schools, teachers and children to establish and maintain a series of longitudinal studies across Wales. This will involve data collection and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data.

The post will be based within WISERD (at Cardiff University) and will be line managed by Prof Sally Power. You will also work closely with Prof Chris Taylor.
