ESRC Festival of Social Science 2009 - High Skills, Low Wages: the Global Auction for Brainpower
Starts:
11 March 2008
Ends:
12 March 2008
Wednesday 11 March 2009, 12 noon to 4pm
Committee Rooms 1 and 2, Glamorgan Building
This seminar is organised by the Economic and Social Research Council’s centre for Skills, Knowledge and Organisational Performance (SKOPE).
The seminar will challenge current policy assumptions by asking whether 'high skills' can any longer be regarded as sufficient to secure national competitive advantage, social justice and individual prosperity in the modern globalised economy. Participants will be invited to constructively debate whether the human capital assumptions, upon which much of current government policy rests, are 'fit for purpose' and to discuss the possible implications for future skills policy.
The seminar will be of immense interest to anyone involved in the formation or analysis of skills policy wishing to explore the future of 'high skills' from a global perspective.
If you would like further details or would like to attend this event, please email SKOPE secretary, Valerie Jones, at skope@cardiff.ac.uk.
