‘We Are Cardiff' invites Cardiff University staff to share their story

The local project 'We Are Cardiff’ best known for its community centred blog is set to produce an independent short film about life in the city of Cardiff with support from the University.

Building on the popularity of its blog, the film aims to bring the lives of Cardiff people to life, whilst also showing the city’s alternative side.

New Athena SWAN awards

Four of the University’s academic schools have been granted Athena SWAN bronze status for their commitment to supporting the careers of women in science.

The Schools of Biosciences, Dentistry, Engineering and Medicine were all recognised for their success in developing employment practices and promoting equality in areas such as organisational culture to further and support the careers of women in science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine (STEMM) departments.

A student-led society in the School of Psychology has been voted ‘Best University Society’ at the National Placement and Internship Awards.

PsyCardiff, which works with the School to feedback workplace experiences to younger students, was presented with the award at a ceremony last week.

Pensions Auto-Enrolment

From April 1^st 2013 the University will be required to automatically enrol all staff into a workplace pension scheme if they are not already in one.

This obligatory Government led initiative is designed to help workers save more for their later life, recognising that millions of people are not saving enough to have the income they are likely to want in retirement.

National Student Satisfaction Survey 2013

The University is encouraging a high response rate to this year’s National Student Satisfaction (NSS) Survey to maintain and better its performance.

Published annually, NSS asks final year students studying every subject at every UK university to rate their education. They give marks for teaching, assessment, academic support, organisation, learning resources, personal development and overall satisfaction. The results are published nationally in August.
