University medical student Jamie Roberts won his first Wales cap against Scotland in Cardiff on Saturday. Wales won the game 30-15.
Jamie Roberts is in the third year of his medicine degree at the School of Medicine but put his studies on hold after being named in the Wales rugby coach Warren Gatland's starting line up.
He follows in the footsteps of Welsh rugby legend JPR Williams - also a medical student when he won his first cap.
Jamie said: "It's an important year in my studies but the University has been awesome and thankfully I've been given eight weeks off for the Six Nations. I've also been allowed to postpone my exams until July, rather than sit them in April, so I can put the off the revision for a while.
"The game was a bit of a blur. I got a good early touch then it's all a blur, I don't remember a thing. I hope it's onwards and upwards now."
Professor Helen Houston Dean of Undergraduate Studies and Deputy Head of School said: "Staff and students at the School of Medicine congratulate Jamie. He follows in a long line of proud associations with Welsh rugby from the School both on and off the pitch."
Cardiff University has been consistently ranked in the top 20 sporting institutions in the UK in recent years.
Mr Martyn Fowler, Cardiff University's Head of Rugby coached Jamie firstly with Cardiff & District Youth squads and then with Cardiff Blues Regional squads from U17 to U20.
He said: "To our great surprise last year, and despite huge academic and professional rugby commitments with the Cardiff Blues Academy, Jamie played in the BUSA Premier A league against Bristol University at Llanrumney playing fields contributing to a fine performance and subsequent victory.
"The rugby clubs at the University were all extremely excited at seeing Jamie run out onto the hallowed turf. Jamie gave a good account of himself and we are all confident that this will be the first of many caps to come."
