The search is on once more to find Wales’ best medical and dental supervisor or trainer.
The BEST Awards, established by the School of Postgraduate Medical and Dental Education, pay tribute to GPs, Hospital based Consultants and Dentists who have demonstrated excellence in the role of Educational Supervisor, Clinical Supervisor or Trainer of Postgraduate Medical and Dental Education in Wales.
Trainee doctors and dentists have until the end of August to nominate Welsh GPs, Consultants and Dentists, who in their opinion, have performed outstandingly in one of two categories – primary care and secondary care.
The Awards are part of an initiative launched by the Welsh Deanery entitled ‘Supervising the Route to Excellence’ programme. The programme aims to ensure excellence in medical training through the development and support of high quality Educational and Clinical Supervisors throughout Wales.
Alongside being named Wales’ top educational supervisor or trainer, an Educational Bursary of £5,000 will also be presented to the winner of each category.
Professor Derek Gallen, Dean of the Postgraduate Medical and Dental Education, said: "It is our goal to deliver excellence in continuing medical and dental education for some 2,600 doctors and dentists working in the NHS in Wales. Having the very best trainers and supervisors working with us is key to achieving this goal.
"These awards are designed to thank this group of professionals – who are working so hard to support us in providing one of the best postgraduate education programmes in the country."
The BEST Awards 2010 will culminate in an Awards Dinner on 22 October 2010.
