A university music undergraduate has been appointed to the position of Resident Conductor at Tongwynlais Temperance Band.At only 19 Josh Ruck has already proven his conducting credentials by leading Severn Tunnel Band to National Finals by winning the Welsh Area Fourth Section title in Swansea recently.
Josh will be working with Philip Harper who has been Professional Conductor of the Tongwynlais Band since 2008, leading it to numerous successes including back to back qualifications to the Royal Albert Hall National Finals and the British Open in 2010. Josh, School of Music, said: "To work regularly with Tongwynlais is a dream come true. They are a hard working band and this makes rehearsals enjoyable and productive. Working with Phil is an absolute honour as he is a conductor who I’ve always had tremendous respect for.
"Phil has been an inspiration to me particularly in these last few months when I’ve had the privilege to play under him and I look forward to working with him in the months ahead."Discussing Josh’s conducting experience, Philip Harper said: "Josh’s achievements with Severn Tunnel Band show great potential as a musical leader."Tongwynlais Temperance Band are the Championship Section Band of the City of Cardiff, originally based in the village of Tongwynlais.
