Fancy a chance to shine?

13 December 2007

The hunt is on for the 2008 British Council International Student Award, once again supported by Cardiff University.

A major competition in the international student calendar, now in its sixth year the competition celebrates achievements of overseas students and their individual contributions to communities across the UK.

Unlike other student competitions which focus on academic achievements, the International Student ‘Shine!’ Award is a chance to highlight wider experiences and achievements outside the academic arena by students from overseas.

Katie Jones from the International Development Division says: "The University has enjoyed much success at the awards in the past. We are very keen to hear from, and support any of our international students who mat be interested in entering the awards in anyway we can."

Last year, the Council received more than 2000 entries from students representing more than 120 nationalities. There are 30 individual awards to be spread across the country but only one will receive the grand prize of £2000 and public recognition for their achievements as ‘International Student of the Year 2008’.

If you are an international student and would like to enter the competition, all you have to do is write a letter home, in English, to a close friend or relative informing them of all the ways you are benefiting from your time in the UK. It is entirely web based and the closing date for entries is 21 January, 2008.
