This course aims to introduce students the basic elements of project development and management and how to do market research and needs analysis. The students will learn how to turn an idea into reality and the step by step process and techniques for the various stages of a project life cycle. The course will give solid grounding and confidence the students could approach project development and management with confidence.
Who is this course for?
This course is open to all with an interest in the subject.
Learning and Teaching
The course is taught in 6 x 3 hour sessions with:
Introduction to project conception – how are projects identified and defined; what issues need to be managed during the life of the project; initiating a project idea; explaining baseline data and situation analysis; turning an idea into business case.
Discussing how to conduct research and needs analysis. Students will be divided into groups to do needs analysis: market research, gap analysis, evidence of need
Presenting and discussing in class and in groups the phases of project cycle – project development and management:
a) Needs assessment and project justification
b) Planning: making decisions about which courses of action to follow
c) Controlling: managing activities to ensure progress toward the project
objectives to achieves the desired outcomes
d) Monitoring: obtaining and using accurate and reliable information and data to track progress and take decisions
e) Evaluation: measurement, appraisal, or making judgements on the outcomes and impact of the project in terms of the set targets and objectives. .
Students will be divided into groups to discuss and agree on an idea which they will develop into a project.
Coursework and Assessment
To award credits we need to have evidence of the knowledge and skills you have gained or improved. Some of this has to be in a form that can be shown to external examiners so that we can be absolutely sure that standards are met across all courses and subjects.
The assessment for this module is:
- Completion of written worksheets
- Completion of personal action plan
- Development of a plan of setting up and managing a project
- Completion of a course folder/portfolio
The most important element of assessment is that it should enhance your learning. Our methods are designed to increase your confidence and we try very hard to devise ways of assessing you that are enjoyable and suitable for adults with busy lives.
Your tutor will give suggestions for reading materials throughout the course.
