Women in Universities Mentoring Scheme (WUMS)

Call for applications 2013/14

Become a mentor and/or a mentee with the Women in Universities Mentoring Scheme

The Women in Universities Mentoring Scheme (WUMS) is currently inviting applications from women working in academic and support departments of HEIs at all levels to participate as mentors in this dynamic and innovative scheme.

As a mentor you may:

  • Increase your job satisfaction?
  • Help another woman working in Higher Education to achieve success?
  • Develop your mentoring skills?

As a mentee you may:

  • Improve your chances of career progression?
  • Reduce your feelings of isolation in a male-dominated environment?
  • Receive support and guidance from a senior member of staff?

WUMS aims to promote and facilitate professional development for women working in Welsh universities by setting up inter-university mentoring partnerships where mentees receive encouragement, support and advice from a more experienced colleague to help realise potential and fulfil career aspirations.
My mentor has been personally very supportive, boosted my confidence and provided some insightful questions for reflection.
(Feedback from mentee, WUMS 2008)

WUMS is a great project. Having women helping other women across a network of universities is truly inspirational.  I am proud to be part of it.
(Feedback from mentor, WUMS 2010)
