Funding Your Studies

 

There are numerous ways that you can obtain financial assistance to fund your studies.

Undergraduate Scholarships and Funding

Your first port of call for funding advice and assistance should be your national education finance website (Student Finance England, Student Finance Wales etc). They will have all the information on government university financial assistance and can tell you how to apply.

Scholarships

University Scholarships

The University awards a number of scholarships to the best qualified students each year and engineering is one of the Schools that has been given a number of special scholarships. These scholarships are allocated on academic merit and will be made available on enrolment. You will automatically be considered and no application is necessary. Power Academy and UKESF Scholarships

In addition, Cardiff students studying in the electrical and electronic disciplines can apply for Power Academy scholarships. Cardiff is one of seven universities chosen to be part of the Power Academy which provides assistance to students for tuition fees and living costs. The UK Electronic Skills Foundation offers scholarships to selected UK and EU undergraduate students studying BEng and MEng degrees in electronic engineering at partner universities. Cardiff School of Engineering is one of seven partner universities which are part of the Foundation, along with a number of electronics companies such as ARM, dialog Semiconductor, C-MAC Microtechnology, CSR, and Imagination Technologies. Students enrolled on the Electronics and Communications Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Computer Systems Engineering degree programmes will be eligible to apply for a scholarship.

Students can apply for a scholarship in any year of their degree except the final year. Successful scholars will benefit from an annual bursary, work placements, mentoring and workshops. To find out more or to apply for a scholarship please visit www.ukesf.org

Ford Blue Oval Scholarship Programme (Six £10,000 awards)

The Cardiff School of Engineering has been selected by Ford to offer six high-achieving students a £10,000 scholarship.  These scholarships are being offered to students on the year in industry programmes in MEng Mechanical Engineering, MEng Integrated Engineering, or MEng Electrical & Electronic Engineering.  Applicants need to submit a short (less than 1 minute) YouTube video on our channel (email engineering-ug@cardiff.ac.uk with the subject "YouTube" for instructions/details), showcasing why you should be selected for this prestigious award.


Engineering The 'Diff'rence Scholars (Six £10,000 awards)

In the Cardiff School of Engineering, we recognise that excellence comes in many forms.  Not only will the recipients of these scholarships achieve outstanding results academically, but they will also succeed as global leaders at Cardiff and beyond.  We're looking for students (for any of our degree schemes) who have proven themselves to be superior in the classroom, lab, and in their community.  Applicants need to submit a short (less than 1 minute) YouTube video on our channel (email engineering-ug@cardiff.ac.uk with the subject "YouTube" for instructions/details), showcasing how you will Engineer The 'Diff'rence. Students will receive £2,500 in their first year, and subject to continuing satisfactory academic performance (pass all modules and maintain year average of at least 60%), students will be paid in equal instalments in each of the remaining years of their course.

And now for the small print: Please note, the Ford Blue Oval Scholarships and Engineering The 'Diff'rence Scholarships are available to UK funded students only.  To qualify, you must have accepted the offer of a place to study from Cardiff on a firm basis by 31st July 2012.  The 12 successful scholars will be notified as soon as possible in September 2012. 
 

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS (Engineering Excellence Scholarships)

UG Engineering Excellence Scholarships - a maximum of £8,000 for each student.

  • merit-based awards automatically applied at time of enrolment for the following:

    • AAA (including Maths) at A Level

    • 36 IB with 6 in HL Maths and another HL Science

    • Indian Standard XII's - 85% average from best 4 subjects (excluding Hindi & P.E.) to include a minimum of 85% in Maths and 80% in English

  • ENGIN students who are able to achieve a year average of 75% will be awarded a £2,000 scholarship the following academic year

And now for the small print: Please note, Engineering Excellence Scholarships are available only to self-funded, international fee-paying students, and come in the form of a tuition fee reduction.  To qualify, you must have accepted the offer of a place to study from Cardiff on a firm basis by 31st July 2012.  


 

Postgraduate Scholarships and Funding

Cardiff University awards a number of prestigious President's Scholarships each year for students wishing to study for a PhD. For details of this year's President's Scholarships in Engineering please visit our Presidents Scholarships page.

International Student Scholarships

MSc Engineering Excellence Scholarships:
  • £2,000 Alumni Scholarship awarded to any Cardiff School of Engineering alumni
  • £2,000 for any student who achieves a 1st Class Honours degree from a British University
  • £2,000 scholarships will be offered to students at the time their application for study has been reviewed - i.e. considered on a case by case basis, depending on overall academic achievement, work experience, or the quality of their previous institution.
