Research Group
Cultural Criticism (Centre for Critical and Cultural Theory)
Postgraduate Students
Over the years I have supervised a range of MA and PhD projects on such topics as ‘Hotels in Film and Literature’, ‘Günter Grass’s political novels’, ‘The Philosophy of the Everyday Life’, and ‘Orlan’s Corporeal Art’.
Research Interests
My research interests are quite varied, but centre on the attempt to ‘understand’ or at least find the means of articulating what is peculiar about the everyday. In this vein, I have written on topics as diverse as film, literature, popular music, reality tv, and more recently war. I apply a range of theoretical frameworks in my research, but I find I’m primarily interested in the work of Gilles Deleuze, Fredric Jameson and Slavoj Žižek, largely because of the way they fuse Marxism and psychoanalysis with a range of other theoretical discourses in an energetic bid to account for contemporary politics and culture.
