The Cardiff Award

The Cardiff Award is an employability award that encourages students to undertake work experience or get involved in extra-curricular activities, then recognises and rewards students for their efforts. It takes you through a process that will give you the confidence and skills to be successful in the world of work, after graduation.

“As a student of Cardiff University you will develop many marketable, work related skills and attributes through pursuing your degree scheme and the many extra-curricular opportunities offered by the University and Students Union. In a challenging time for graduate recruitment the Cardiff Award will help you achieve your potential, increase your self awareness, and communicate effectively your strengths to employers. I recommend the Cardiff Award to all our students.” Vice Chancellor, Professor Colin Riordan

Why?

The Award process will improve your professionalism and employability, increase self-awareness of your skills and enable you to articulate these effectively to future recruiters. It will also complement your university experience and better equip you for graduate employment.

The Award has been developed by industry. Principal sponsors Ernst and Young have contributed significantly to the content, ensuring it has a real commercial context.

Successful completion of the Award will give you:

  • A good understanding of the graduate recruitment process
  • Something different to put on your CV
  • Improved employability skills and an understanding of the skills demanded by future recruiters
  • Improved self confidence and self awareness
  • Demonstrable commitment
  • Networking opportunities with the Award sponsors and participants
  • Improved interview techniques and presentation skills.

Who?

The Award is open to all undergraduates but it is mostly aimed at second years.

You will find the Award valuable if:

  • You feel you have weaknesses or gaps in your employability skills and are concerned that you are not ready for the world of work.
  • You are already engaged in extra-curricular activities and would like to gain official recognition from the University for your efforts.
  • You want to gain an insight into industry. Not only do the Cardiff Award partners and sponsors deliver compulsory workshops and sessions, but the Award will also offer you opportunities to network with employers outside of the lecture theatre.

The Award isn’t for all and spaces are limited.
